James Vickers Life and Times

James Lewis Vickers, affectionately known as “Lewis” a beacon of love and steadfastness, completed his earthly journey on August 17, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on September 30, 1961, in Houston County, Alabama, Lewis, as he was affectionately known, navigated life's pathways with an unwavering spirit and a heart full of compassion. His departure leaves a legacy of unwavering love and cherished memories.

Professionally, Lewis's dedication shone brightly. Whether at Mansfield Roofing Company or That's It Car Wash, his work ethic was a reflection of his character: steadfast, reliable, and infused with integrity. His colleagues knew him as a man who stood by his word, a reliable presence who brought not just his hands but his heart to every task.

Lewis's life was a symphony of simple joys and profound connections. His interests were anchored in the love for his family, and he was a man who thrived in the company of his loved ones. He was well-loved, not just for his presence but for the essence of who he was—a loving soul who uplifted those around him.

Though preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Bobby Vickers, Jubilee Vickers, Willie James Jackson, Willie Earl Vickers, and Chester Vickers; one sister: Elizabeth Parks.

Lewis's life was a testament to the enduring power of family and love. A devoted husband to his wife: Antionette Scott Vickers of Semmes, Alabama for 24 years, he was the cornerstone of their union, fostering a home filled with laughter, support, and unwavering commitment. As a father to Dewaynes Mathis, Sr. and Kevin D. Mathis, both of Dothan, Alabama, and a guiding light to his four stepsons: Edward (Lavon) Scott, Steven (Vanity) Scott, Trayvon (Nadia) Scott, and Justin Scott, all of Mobile, Alabama.

Lewis's nurturing presence was the compass that helped steer their lives toward promise and purpose. His grandchildren, the joyous echoes of his lineage, will carry forward the spark of his wisdom and the warmth of his embrace.

Lewis's memory is tenderly held by those who continue the circle of love, his sisters: Gertrude (Thomas) Myhand, Shirley (Tim) Threats Patterson, and Minnie (Charles) Pearce all of Dothan, Alabama; two brothers: James Vickers, and Billy Vickers both of Dothan, Alabama; his adored aunt: Willie Dean Craddock of Abbeville, Alabama; his father-in-law William Earl; sisters-in-law: Jo Ann, Sabrina, and Tacara; brothers-in-law: Johnnie and Edwin; and the extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. His stepsisters: Daisy, Mary, and Sheila also hold dear the times shared with Lewis, each moment a precious stone in the mosaic of his life's story.

In the fabric of his being, Lewis embodied the essence of love. He was a motivational force, inspiring others to reach for their best selves through his example. To quote the renowned poet Maya Angelou, "Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope." Lewis lived by these words, demonstrating through his actions that love is the most potent force for change and connection.

As we celebrate the life of James Lewis Vickers, let us not dwell on our loss but be motivated by the richness of his legacy. Let us honor his memory by living with the same generosity of spirit, by nurturing our families with the same devotion, and by facing each day with the same unyielding love that he championed.

Lewis's journey on earth may have reached its sunset, but the dawn of his influence rises within each life he touched. His story does not end with his final breath but continues in the lives of those he inspired. In our hearts and memories, James Lewis Vickers remains an eternal source of motivation, love, and the purest human connection.
