Obituary

Mr. James Salter, age 72, of Dothan, Alabama passed away Sunday, August 22, 2020.

Drive through visitation will be Friday, August 28, 2020 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 11 AM at Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Abbeville, Alabama.

Committal will immediately follow the service at the church cemetery.

Mr. James Ivory Salter was born December 10, 1947 to the late Isaac Salter and Cora Salter.  He was married to the late Ernestine Salter for 28 years.

James received his education from Carver and was in the graduating class of 1966.

At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.  James united with Rocky Mount Baptist Church, where he served as the chairman of the Deacon board and was a member of the finance department and help lead the morning devotion.

Brother James Salter was a member of many masonic organizations.  Bro. Salter was a 32nd Mason and a member of the McHellon Masonic Lodge #931, where he served as Junior Deacon.  Bro. Salter was a member of Wilson Choice Chapter #625 Order of Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron.  Bro. Salter served these masonic organizations, faithfully, until he answered the summons of the Supreme Grand Master to enter into the Supreme Grand Lodge.

He retired from Meadow Gold and Hedstorm.  He was currently working at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity for over nine years.

James loved his family, friends, Mason brothers, Eastern Star Sisters, and his church and work family.  He also loved to sing and do a great devotion.

He departed on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Ernestine Salter, Mary Salter; parents: Isaac Salter and Cora Salter; sister: Ann Armstrong and grandson: Jervay Severson.

Precious memories are left with his children: Isaac (Tracy) Salter, Tawana Johnson, Katrina Hagler, Tiffany McKenzie, Tonya (Jessie) Rogers and Terez Salter; sisters: Nora (Roosevelt) Hutchinson and Pam Salter; brothers: Jerry (Sheila) Salter and Van (Paula) Armstrong; Grandchildren: Blake (Jamie) Salter, Keara (Raymond) Stewart, Sha'Kera Davis, Khynoah McKenzie, Sha'Mel Hagler, Kayla Johnson, Thomas Holston, Jr., Isaiah Robinson, Cheston Sampson, DelRoy Williams, Jr., Cordahy Salter, KaiOmi Walker, Jace Johnson and Madison Salter; great grandchildren: Harmony, Hayden and Harrison Stewart; brothers-in-law: Bernard (Barbara) Ward, Wayne (Evelyn) Ward and Derrick Ward; sisters-in-law: Cora Johnson and Angela Jones; special friends: Mary Kinsey and Father Peter Wong and a host of relatives and friends.
