Howard Junior Nix

Mr. Howard Nix, age 70, of Dothan, Alabama passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022.

Visitation will be Friday, May 6, 2022 from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 1 PM at Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church; 68 Willoughby Road, Gordon, Alabama 36343.

Burial will immediately follow the service at the church's cemetery.

Howard Junior Nix was born on July 25, 1951, to the late Havard and Mary Etta (McGriff) Nix, in Donalsonville, Georgia.

He was educated in the Houston County School System and graduated from Cottonwood High School with the Class of 1970.  He was employed at South Alabama Medical Center—now Southeast Health– for over 30 years as a Mental Health Technician. 

Howard was an advocate for sports.  Although he played a lot of sports growing up, his unwavering love was for football.  He was a true Crimson TIDE fan.  He coached the first women’s softball team, the Ball Dawgs, in Gordon, Alabama.  He was known for his mentorship in the community.

Howard accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, at an early age, and attended Seeking God Face Miracle Ministry, under the care of Bishop Darius and Pastor Diane Collins.

On April 30, 2022, Howard Junior Nix departed this Earthly realm for a Heavenly home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son: Cedrick Dewayne Nix.

He leaves behind a beloved wife: Hope Nix of Dothan, Alabama; one son: Jose Nix of Dothan, Alabama; five daughters: Alcedra Demise Nix of Birmingham, Alabama, AL Latria (Deone) Whatley of Dothan, Alabama, Lasundra (Jayvon) Kennedy of Atlanta, Georgia, Lawanda Nix and Juanita Nix both of Dothan,  Alabama; a special son: Brandon; nine grandchildren: Tierra Harris, Lativia Harris, Tyetta Young, Ke’Ayshia Peterson, Ka’Mariyah Peterson, La’Tiana Whatley, Jayvon Kennedy, Jr., Tison Whatley, and Javionna Kennedy; five great grandchildren: Amiyah Johnson, Cayden Harris, Christiana Bailey, Brayden Jones, and Messiah Grimsley; one brother: Danny (Carol) Nix of Dothan, Alabama; four sisters:  Joyce Nix of New York, New York, Mary Ann (Eddie) Hention of Gordon, Alabama, Gloria Jean Nix of Dothan, Alabama, and Debra (Jessie) Porter of Ashford, Alabama; one God daughter: Ariel Randall; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
