Henry Matthews, Sr. Life and Times

Mr. Henry Walter Matthews, Sr. of Enterprise, Alabama departed this earthly life on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at the age of 77.

 

Henry Walter Matthews, Sr. was one of six children, born to the late Tommie and Mary Lou Matthews on September 24, 1945.

Henry accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior early in life at Union Grove Baptist Church and in later years; he joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member until his demise.

Henry graduated from Coppinville High School in Enterprise, Alabama in 1964. However, shortly after high school, he joined the United States Army in June 1964 and retired in October 1990 with a rank of Sergeant First Class. Upon his retirement from the Unites States Army, he was hired as a Federal employee. He worked with the Department of Information Technology Specialist as a Systems Analysis and retied after twenty years of Federal Service.

Early in his life, he met and married Linda Diggs and to this union, one son was born; Henry W. Matthews, Jr. Unfortunately, after forty-four years of marriage, the Lord called her home. On February 28, 2015, he met and married Mary Reeves Green.

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, Henry Walter Matthews, Sr. transitioned from his earthly house to his heavenly home.

Predeceasing Henry are his parents; three brother: Major Matthews, Tommie Matthews and Roy Matthews.

He leaves to cherish his precious and loving memories to his loving and devoted wife: Mary Reeves Green Matthews; son: Henry W. Matthews, Jr.; step-daughter: Crystal Green; step-grandson: Christian Porter; brothers: Clarence (Linda) Matthews of Clarksville, Tennessee and Frank Matthews of Orlando, Florida; sisters-in-law: Angela Matthews of Titusville, Florida, Eloise Matthews of Enterprise, Alabama and Mildred Diggs Lewis; three brothers-in-law: Samuel (Martha) Whitehurst of Enterprise, Alabama, Reverend Jimmie (Naomi) Reeves and Reverend Noah (Cheryl) Reeves of Dothan, Alabama niece and nephew: Roland and Helen Diggs; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
