Harry Sistrunk Life and Times

On May 9, 1935, God, the giver of every good and perfect gift, gave to Jessie J. and Cora Bell Sistrunk their first male child.  They named him Harry Lee Sistrunk.  He was the third of six children.

 Reunited

The last light dims, the house is still.

But look—the Hills are shining!

Another soul has crossed the sill,

To join the love abiding.

No longer lonely, tired or old.

They walk upon the streets of Gold.

The circle broken now is WHOLE!

Safe in a Grand, United Soul!

Harry is now reunited with his FAMILY!

Parents:  Jessie James and Cora Bell Sistrunk

Brothers: Jessie, Jr., and Edward Lee Sistrunk

Sisters:  Betty Jean Trawick, Alberta Ward and Bernice Thompson

At a very young age, Harry accepted Christ and was baptized into the membership of St. Walden Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful servant until his death.  He became an Ordained Deacon and a member of the Usher Board.  His church honored him for his dedication as a committed Deacon and president of the usher board for over 70 years.  Harry was also recognized as one of the oldest and most faithful members of the Southeast Usher Union.  His service to numerous auxiliaries includes, Wiregrass Consistory 32nd Degree Mason, McHellon Lodge #931 P.H.A., and the Ladies Aide Society #60.

Harry’s long time profession installing ceramic tile, slate, marble and quarry are evident of his gift from God, for over 45 years.  His infectious smile will be missed by many.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 54 amazing years, Ella Lou King Sistrunk.  They would have celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary on May 22, 2026 (what a beautiful blessing)!.

Brother-in-laws and Sister-in-laws:

Mandy Lou Smith (Willie James) of Dothan, AL., Milton Jr. (Cathy) of Dothan, AL., James Edward King (Aleta ) of Quincy, FL., Carl Kenny King deceased (Crystal) of Rochester, NY., Charles Randy King (Linda) of Rochester, NY., William Roger King (Vikki) of Dothan, AL.

Pastor Jerome and Tammy Lyster, extended family.

Even though Harry had no biological children, he was blessed with two God children; Jessica McGriff and Aisha Ward Jones.  One of his greatest joys was being the “BEST UNCLE EVER” to the descendants of his siblings.  They are too numerous to name individually, but they ALL thought and felt like his FAVORITE!  With that big smile on his face, Harry’s words were, “Who’s Not MY Favorite?”  He Loved ALL of them.
