George Phillips, affectionately known as "Bless," was born on September 27, 1938, in Bullock County, Alabama, to the late George Henry Phillips, Sr. and Lillie Simmons Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, Frank Phillips. On his journey through life, he built a lasting legacy of faith, service, and devotion to family and community that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
At an early age, George confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with Wayman Chapel AME Church. He remained a faithful and dedicated member throughout his life until his health began to fail. He found great joy in worship and served God faithfully as a member of the church choir, lifting his voice in praise and encouraging others through song. He also served as steward and trustee for many years. (He loved music!)
George received his education in the Bullock County School System and graduated from Carver High School in 1957. After graduation, he began his career with Dixie Electric in Union Springs, Alabama. He later answered the call to serve his country, spending two years in the United States Military. Upon returning from military service, George resumed his employment with Dixie Electric, where he worked faithfully until his retirement. In addition to his civilian career, he continued his commitment to serving his country through 23 years of dedicated service in the National Guard, where he attained the rank of E-5 before concluding his military service.
George was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, cherished brother, and loyal friend. He was known for his kind spirit, unwavering faith, and willingness to help others. His life was a testimony of hard work, commitment, and love for God and family.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and faithful wife of 62 years, Charlotte L. Phillips; one loving and devoted son - Paul (Michelle) Phillips; one cherished brother - Roscoe Phillips; three loving granddaughters: Paula Phillips, Mya Phillips, and Andrea (Ruben) Hayden; three beloved great-granddaughters; a devoted and caring niece - Kathy S. Scott; a dear niece and goddaughter - Charlotte L. (Jermane) Perry; a good friend and church member: Dwayne Hudson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Though he has departed from this earthly life, the legacy of Brother George Phillips will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His faith, wisdom, and gentle spirit will be remembered always.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7
