Gearene Easley Brisbon, a beacon of love and faith, transitioned from this life on June 9, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and devotion. Born in the warm embrace of Choctaw County, Alabama, on July 17, 1942, she was a cherished daughter to Leon and Jennie Mae Easley. Her journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to her faith, family, and community.
Growing up amid the verdant fields of Dothan, Alabama, Gearene was the embodiment of the nurturing spirit that defined her family. As one of ten siblings, her life was a tapestry of shared experiences, each thread woven with the bonds of love and mutual support. Gearene's early years were filled with the knowledge and values imparted by the Dothan Public School System, which served as the foundation for her lifelong dedication to learning and personal growth.
Her faith was as much a part of Gearene as the air she breathed. Embracing Christ early in life, she became a pillar of strength and support within her church communities, from New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church to Alabama Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. Gearene's involvement was not simply about attendance; it was about active, heartfelt service and the spread of unwavering hope and joy.
Gearene's interests were a mirror to her soul, reflecting the care and thoughtfulness she extended to everyone around her. She had a special love for celebrating Mother's Day and Father's Day, a tradition she honored by giving out roses. Easter was another cherished time, as she delighted in the joy of children, passing out eggs and candy. Her generosity was not confined to holidays; her neighbors knew her as the one who would spend hours cooking and sharing food, her kitchen a hub of warmth and fellowship.
Gearene's heart knew no bounds when it came to her family. She was preceded in death by five beloved siblings: Jacob, Annie Laura, Joseph, James, and Esther Mae. Yet, her memory is a treasure held close by her four sister:, Mamie Easley, and Nita Brooks of Dothan, Alabama, Mary Lois (Clarence, Sr.) of Columbus, Georgia, and Martha (Vince) Boyd of San Antonio, Texas, and her dear aunt: Willie Mae Bradley of Dothan, Alabama. Their lives are richer for the love and joy she shared, and they, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, will forever cherish her memory.
Describing Gearene as faith-filled and loving only scratches the surface of her profound impact on those she touched. Her life was a testament to the power of selfless love and unwavering faith. As the motivational speaker Les Brown once said, "Help others achieve their dreams, and you will achieve yours." Gearene lived this truth every day, helping to uplift and inspire those around her, encouraging them to reach for their highest potential.
She was a woman of action, her every deed a reflection of her inner light. Gearene's life was a message to us all: to live with purpose, to love without reservation, and to leave the world a better place than we found it. Her spirit continues to motivate us to extend kindness and compassion to our fellow beings.
Today, as we celebrate the life of Gearene Brisbon, let us carry forward the lessons she imparted through her example. Let her memory be a guiding star, leading us to live with the same love and dedication that she embodied. Gearene's journey on earth may have concluded, but her influence remains, a lasting beacon of hope for all who had the privilege to know her.
