Evergreen Neal Life and Times

Home going celebration for Sister Evergreen Neal who passed on November 8, 2021 will be held on Saturday November 20th, 2021 at 11:00a.m. at Greater New Salem Primitive Baptist Church, 1605 N. Nebraska Avenue, Tampa, Florida with Rev. Dr. Benjamin Curry, Officiating.  Sister Neal will be interred in Greater Antioch Church Cemetery, Gordon, Alabama; under the direction of the caring staff of Scott's Chapel Hill Mortuary "Because We Care" 

Sister Evergreen Neal was born September 24,1933 in Gordon, Alabama to Joseph and Mary Melton, she moved to Tampa, Florida in 1957 and lived here until her demise.

Sister Neal was a devoted Christian, and she loved her church. Sister Neal joined Greater New Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida in 1969. While at Greater New Salem she was a member of the Senior Usher Board, Number 2 Choir, Mission Board, Youth Ministry, Hospitality Ministry, and many other ministries in the church.

During her time in service at New Salem she served under Rev. R.H. Howard, Rev. Lane and the presiding Pastor Curry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Melton; son, Edward Melton; grandson, Lorrell M. Askew; brothers, S.W. Melton, Virgil Melton, Elbert Melton and Joseph Melton; sisters, Mary E. Melton-Hall, Lela Mae Robinson, Dorothy Melton-Smith, Eunice S. Melton Ward and sister-in-law, Maggie Melton. Her nieces Cathy Hall, Olna Arringion, Beverly Dye and Agnes Mitchell; nephews, Christopher Hall, Johnny Melton, Joe Melton and Clinton Melton. 

She leaves to cherish memories of her with  children, Elder Larry Neal Sr., David Melton (Theresa), Lucinda Askew (Ronnie), Patricia Joseph (St. Jelo); grandchildren, Larry Sr. Lamont Askew, Lindsey Johnson ( Dominiquo), Katrice Kennedy, Kareem and Christopher Reaves, St. Gelatin Joseph (Marvina), Demar Rashad Neal, Maurice Jospeh, Aja Hawkins, Larry E. Neal Jr. (Taylour), Euniqua E. N. Bullock (Booker T ), Tirrell Melton (Shytanya), Jessica Melton, Latrika Doyle-Pittman (Maurice); 21 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Sisters, Clay-Ann Kelly, Ellen Graham (Roger), Sarah Moore (Ben) and brother Charles Melton.  A host of nieces and nephews, grand nieces,great nephews, cousins,  Eddie McCarter, Lossie Mitchell, Leila Spikes, James Heard, George Heard, and Johnnie Spikes. She also leaves to cherish memories with close friends, Yolanda Randolph, Jackie Thomas -Nash, Geraldine Gilchrist, Brenda Ford, Minnie Williams, Ruby Mack and Stephanie Turner.   

There will be a viewing on Friday November 19, 2021 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers please make all donations to Abe Brown Ministries, Inc. 2921 N. 29th Street Tampa, Florida 33605.
