Evangelist Lillie Sistrunk Life and Times

Lillie Mae Sistrunk, a cherished beacon of love and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024, in Cowarts, Alabama. Born on April 24, 1928, in the Smithville community, she was the daughter of the late Mae Bell and Will Rivers. Lillie Mae's life was a testament to her strength, compassion, and dedication to her family and her faith.

She was united in marriage to the late Ervin Sistrunk, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories. Although her husband and her granddaughter Nicole Sistrunk preceded her in death, Lillie Mae's spirit is carried on through her loving family. Her children: John (Cynthia) Sistrunk of Cowarts, Alabama, and Debra Garrett of Cottonwood, Alabama, remain to honor her legacy. Lillie Mae was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren: Christopher Sistrunk, Anthony Garrett, Lynose (Mary) Garrett, Latoya (Dylan)Garrett-Dry, Shanon Sistrunk, Antonio Ross, Cinnamon Sistrunk, India Garrett, and Keira Dawsey; as well as twenty great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored deeply.

Lillie Mae's life was one of service and devotion. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a steadfast member of the Smithville Baptist Church. Her commitment to her faith was evident through her roles as a Sunday School Teacher, Usher, and member of the Ladies Auxiliary Ministry Society (LAMS). Her spiritual journey led her to embrace her calling as a Minister of the Gospel, a role she fulfilled with grace and fervor. Lillie Mae later joined the congregation of Grace Community Church, where she continued to serve as a shining example of Christian character, modesty, and the golden rule of treating others as one would wish to be treated.

Her ministry reached far beyond church walls, touching the lives of countless individuals who found solace and strength in her words and actions. She was a faithful servant to her community, a guiding light that brought comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Lillie Mae's unwavering love and nurturing spirit were the cornerstones of her family. She instilled values of kindness, perseverance, and faith that will continue to flourish in the generations to come.

In her leisure, Lillie Mae found joy in the simplicity of life's pleasures. She had a passion for gardening, where she cultivated not only plants but also the beauty and tranquility that she brought into the world. Her love for reading and storytelling was a gift she shared with her grandchildren, leaving them with cherished memories and lessons for life.

Lillie Mae's passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family and friends, but her impact will continue to resonate. Her legacy of love, strength, and passion will live through those she leaves behind. As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Lillie Mae's presence will forever be a part of us.

As we bid farewell to Lillie Mae Sistrunk, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a soul that has truly made a difference. Her memory will be cherished, her teachings will be followed, and her love will continue to guide us. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing she has left this world better than she found it.
