Mrs. Ethell Stovall, age 84, of Dothan, Alabama gained her wings Tuesday, April 21, 2020.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at 2 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Haleburg, Alabama.
Ethell Deloris Farmer Stovall was born on November 17, 1935, to her loving parents: Mr. and Mrs. Jeff and Lucille Washington Farmer, in Shorterville, Alabama. She committed her life to serving Christ at an early age. Ethell accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at New Salem Baptist Church in Shorterville, Alabama, where she served faithfully. She was the oldest child with four siblings, whom she loved dearly: Mary Alice Farmer Gray, Willie Jeff Farmer, Betty Ruth Farmer Moore, and Martha Sue Farmer Kinsey.
She was united in Holy Matrimony with the love of her life, Mr. Ceffer Lee Stovall, on December 25, 1958. They were married for over 58 years. Upon marriage to her handsome groom, Ethell joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Haleburg, Alabama, where she served as a dedicated and committed deaconess and missionary until departing this life.
She graduated from Alabama State University, formerly known as Alabama State College, with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She loved her alma mater so much that she supported and encouraged her daughter and all of her grandchildren in their academic studies at her beloved Alabama State. Ethell was a role model and the epitome of grace, excellence and virtue. She always encouraged high academic achievement and excellence among her daughter, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
As an Educator at the Henry County Training School and in the Abbeville Public School System, she retired after working her entire career serving the students and families in the Henry County Community. "Mrs. Stovall", as she was affectionately called, impacted many people's lives in the community from September 1958 until her retirement on June 5, 1998, after 37 years of service. She had a stellar career as a professional educator. She was recognized by the Local Board of Education, the Alabama State Department of Education, and the National Education Association for her unique ability to work with young students from all backgrounds, as well as her collaboration with her co-workers.
She was a dedicated member of the Eta Rho Chapter of Alpha Pi Chi National Sorority for many years, where she was honored as Soror of the Year. She and her sorority sisters engaged in civic, social, cultural and intellectual activities to benefit the community. She was also a member of LaCherio Social Club, where she and her club members formed close bonds to last a lifetime.
Ethell had a big heart and she deeply loved her family. She loved helping others and spreading love to all whom she encountered in her life's journey.
She was preceded in death by her proud parents: Mr. and Mrs. Jeff and Lucille Washington Farmer; husband: Mr. Ceffer Lee Stovall; siblings: Mary Alice Farmer Gray, Willie Jeff Farmer, Betty Ruth Farmer Moore, and Martha Sue Farmer Kinsey; brothers-in-love: Emmitt Kinsey, Sr. and Eugene Stovall.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her only child: Sherryl Ranae Stovall Whiting of Dothan, Alabama; three grandchildren: Adrienne Nicole Stovall of Montgomery, Alabama, Lya Renee Whiting Snell (Eddie) of McDonough, Georgia, and Albert Christopher Whiting, Jr. of Wetumpka, Alabama; four great grandchildren: Ceffer Julian Stovall, Kelsey Renee Snell, Kennedy Rhae Snell and Kyrie Christopher Whiting; two sisters-in-love: Rounette Stovall Fulse of Orlando, Florida and Minnie Stovall of Abbeville, Alabama; five nieces: Pamela Dobbins of Glen Burnie, Maryland; Charlene Gregoire (Duckens) of Westbury, New York, Kimberly Cooper of Brooklyn, New York, Tiffaney S. Moore Randolph (Damion) of Westley Chapel, Florida, Jackie Fulse of Orlando, Florida; nine nephews: Johnny Cooper of Texas, Kelvin Farmer, Sr. of St. Petersburg, Florida, John Edward Moore, III (Crystal) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Emmitt Kinsey, Jr. and Anthony Kinsey of Tampa, Florida, Anthony Fulse (Cherri) of Apopka, Florida, Terry Stovall (Carrie) of Newville, Alabama, Gregory Stovall (Capreta) of Tallahassee, Florida, Christopher Stovall (Adrianne) of Dothan, Alabama and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
Ethell was loved by family and friends, and the community members she worked with throughout her beautiful years of life.
