Ethel Archie Life and Times

Remembering Ethel

With profound love and heartfelt remembrance, we celebrate the life of Ethel Yudora Archie, who peacefully transitioned on May 6, 2026, surrounded by the love and devotion of her husband, Clifton M. Archie. Born September 22, 1957, she was the cherished daughter of the late John Lemon and Ella Marie Byrd, and the beloved granddaughter of the late Adolphus and Daisy Agee.

She was also preceded in death by her loving sisters, Barbara Carter and Abbie (James) Davis, and by her precious grandson, Ja’Kobie Byrd, whom she adored.

Ethel will be remembered for the deep love and devotion she shared with her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy lives on through her devoted husband, Clifton M. Archie, and her loving children: Anthony J. Byrd of South Dakota; Shannon Byrd of Montgomery, AL; and Kiian Byrd of Montgomery, AL. She also leaves her devoted goddaughter, Adrienne Harmon of Union Springs, AL, and her bonus children: Anthwaune Staples of Monroeville, AL; Harvey M. Knight of Foley, AL; Lashondra Rivers of Atmore, AL; Nekeshia Archie of Century, FL; Gorlia Tashina Archie of Auburn, AL; and Ida Lashae Archie of Montgomery, AL.

Ethel found great joy in spending time with her family, taking road trips with her husband, and enjoying good food. She cherished her daily conversations with her children, sisters, nieces, and other family members—finding joy, comfort, and connection in every moment shared.

She leaves to cherish her memory her siblings: Rebecca Henry of Rochester, NY; Huey (Ollie) Byrd of Union Springs, AL; Mary Byrd of Hartford, CT; John L. Byrd Jr. of Union Springs, AL; Valerie Byrd of Montgomery, AL; and Keyla Byrd of Union Springs, AL.

She also leaves to cherish her memory her bonus mother, Gertha Byrd of Union Springs, AL; three bonus sisters, Diane (Willie) Jordan of Tuskegee, AL, Debbie (Albert) Harris of Union Springs, AL, and Jacqueline Patterson of Union Springs, AL; and one bonus brother, Thomas Davis of Union Springs, AL.

She is further remembered by her brothers‑in‑love, Rev. Denbray (Gean) Archie of Atmore, AL, and James (Gail Barnes) Archie of Atmore, AL. She was preceded in death by her sisters‑in‑love Edna Archie and Patricia Archie, and by her brothers‑in‑love Jacob Archie, Glenn Archie, Ernest Archie, and Edward James Archie, all of Atmore, AL.

Ethel was the proud grandmother of fifteen grandchildren, each of whom she treasured deeply. She delighted in every moment spent loving and nurturing her precious gifts.

A faithful member of Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church, Ethel served with dedication on the Usher Board, greeting each soul with kindness, grace, and a warm spirit. Her faith was her foundation, guiding her steps, shaping her character, and shining brightly in all that she did.

She leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends and loved ones including a devoted niece Faye (Darrell) Manuel of Banks, AL.
