Elijah Baker Life and Times

Elijah Lee Baker departed this earth for his heavenly home on Monday, November 28, 2022.

He was born on March 17, 1944 to the late Jesse J. Baker and Mary Lee Baker in Abbeville, AL. He graduated from the Henry County Training School and joined the United States Air Forces in 1962. Upon his return to Abbeville he worked alongside of his dear friend Dr. William Creel at the Abbeville Clinic and also began working for West Point Stevens Pepperell Mill in Abbeville, AL.

During this time, he met the love of his life Jacqueline Lyman of Mobile, AL and the two married in 1988. In 1991 they began raising their great-niece Jertavia Lyman of Mobile, AL. They were very active in Jertavia’s activities from school activities, Girl Scouts, and the AKA Culturama Teen Club.

Elijah never met a stranger and was a friend to all he encountered. He was very active in his community and did his part by participating on boards for the City of Abbeville. In his final years he spent his time visiting his family and friends around town and also made weekly visits to the local nursing home. One of his most famous hobbies was being the town Uber driver as his family referred to him, assisting those who needed to run errands. Elijah was a member of Mary Magdalene Baptist Church where he loved attending and fellowshipping with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Jacqueline Baker, his parents, and his brothers Charles & Walter Baker and sister  Mary Louise Ruff.

Elijah leaves to cherish his memories his great-niece/daughter Jertavia Lyman, his brother Jesse A. Baker and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He always expressed his special love for his cousins Rodwick Jackson & Aretha Smith Jenkins, his “girls” Bianca Culver, Kaleena Craddock and Brina Baker and nephew by love Markus Sipp.

He truly loved so many people the list would be endless to write but please hold all your memories near and dear to your heart of our beloved Elijah Lee Baker.
