Dorothy Fenn Harper was born May 9, 1933, to Henry and Nealie Fenn in the Brock’s Beat Community of Henry County, Al. She attended the Henry County Training School. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined St. Michael A.M.E Church in Edwin, AL.

On March 27, 1951, Dorothy married James Ozell Harper. They became faithful members of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Clayton, AL. After relocating to Ozark in 1956, the family united with Bethel Baptist Church, now First Missionary Baptist Church. Dorothy served as a usher, a steward of the Ladies Aide Society and General Mission. She also enjoyed singing in the choir.

Dorothy was a praying woman of strong Christian faith. She was compassionate and cared for her family and loved ones. Dorothy and James made a strong team raising their ten children. She was a devoted wife, honoring her wedding vows for 66 years. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and a nurturing mother figure to many. She encouraged everyone to always do right know matter what others are doing. Dorothy’s compassion was exemplified through her work. She was a dedicated certified nurse’s assistant. She retired from Oakview Manor Nursing Facility after twenty-five years. She never complained. Daily, Dorothy prayed and read her favorite scriptures: Psalm 91 and Psalm 37. She always put her trust in God, not man. She lived with a grateful and thankful heart, mind, and spirit.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, nine siblings, five children, one daughter in law and one grandson.

She leaves to cherish her memories, four sons: James Jr., Frederick, Kenneth, and Calvin Harper. One daughter Cheryl Harper all of Ozark. A special niece, Janice Fenn.
