In the early morning of hours on December 5, 2024, at Southeast Health Medical Center in Dothan Alabama, God entered the room where Doris Wade quietly rested. With love, He looked at her soul and determined it was time for her to enter her eternal resting place; a place where she would not grieve anymore, no pain, but peace and rest in the bosom of Jesus Christ.
Doris Wade (affectionally called “Aunt Doris” by her nieces and nephews), was born to; mother Francha (Wade) Brown and father James (Jim Buck) Wade on November 5, 1945, in Gordon Alabama.
Doris’s youthful years were spent playing with friends and family in Gordon. Her early education began at Philadelphia Elementary School in Pansey, Alabama. After elementary school Doris attend and graduated from Columbia Colored High, Columbia Alabama in 1963.
After graduating from high school Doris made the decision to move to New York City to explore her career options. Her life-long friend LueRetha Johnson Redding welcomed her into her household. Shortly thereafter, Doris became a bank teller for Chemical Bank in New York. In 1993, she decided it was time to move back home. She returned home and worked as a Bank Teller at AB&T Bank in Dothan Alabama until she retired in 2013.
Upon returning home, Doris continued her Christian walk by renewing her membership at Philadelphia Baptist Church. She joined Usher Board where her mother was also a member. She served as Chair of the Trustee Board and a member of the Finance Committee since 2005.
Doris devoted time to her serving her community. She became a Senior Citizen Center volunteer and a Houston County Election Worker. She enjoyed cruising, laughing, playing cards, dancing, and telling jokes (even if the joke was about her). She loved having tons of fun with her friends and family members.
She will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her father; James Wade, her mother; Francha Brown, and her only sister; Mildred (Wade) Wilson.
Her fond memories will live on in the hearts of her four nephews: Fred Wilson Jr. (Priscilla), Gregory Wilson, Delrick Wilson, and Kym Wilson (Carla) all of Gordon Alabama; three nieces: Chronda Nicholas of Gainesville, Florida, Cassandra Temple (Lawrence Jr.) Ormand Beach, Florida, and Tonya Powe, Pansey Alabama.
