Donald Leake Life and Times

Donald Ray Leake, known to those who loved him as "Big Cat," embarked on his life's journey on May 25, 1957, in the warm community of Dothan, Alabama. It was here that he was cradled in the loving arms of his late parents, Lynell Leake and Johnnie Mae Montgomery, and where, on September 9, 2024, he peacefully concluded his earthly chapter, surrounded by the familiar comforts of his hometown.

Donald's formative years were shaped within the halls of the Dothan City School System, where he not only gained knowledge but also cultivated the virtues of friendship and community. His spiritual journey was deeply rooted in his faith, as he accepted Christ and became a devoted member of the Adam Street Baptist Church, now known as Greater Beulah Missionary Baptist Church. There, he found solace and purpose, contributing to the fabric of his community through service and fellowship.

"Big Cat" was a man whose heart knew no bounds. His title as a brother, uncle, and friend was worn with honor and pride. Donald's life was a living example of the adage, "To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world." This sentiment, often attributed to Dr. Seuss, encapsulates the profound impact Donald had on those around him. Each interaction was an opportunity to uplift, each moment shared a chance to inspire.

Donald's interests were as varied as the many lives he touched. His presence was a source of comfort and joy, his laughter a melody that resonated in the hearts of those who knew him. He navigated life's challenges with grace and emerged from each with unwavering optimism. In every endeavor, Donald embodied the spirit of a motivational speaker, always ready with words of encouragement and a belief in the potential of others.

Donald's life was a testament to the strength and resilience inherited from his ancestors, including his grandparents, John Lewis and Alma Montgomery. Though he was preceded in death by his beloved sister: Johnetta Leake Eady, and his brothers: Cairo "Cookie" Montgomery, Michael Leake, and his twin Ronald Leake.

His legacy is carried forward by a loving family. His brother: Dion Williams, sisters: Debra Leake, and Lisa Williams, along with his cherished nieces and nephews - Tammie (Tony) Potter, Keri L. Shun Leake, Bianca Hussey, Serone Register, Dion Williams, Jr., Michael Cawthon, Elise Coleman, and Eli Hilton - will forever hold dear the precious memories of a man whose life was a beacon of joy and kindness.

As we reflect on the life of Donald Ray Leake, let us remember that his journey was one filled with love, laughter, and an unquenchable zest for life. His story does not end with his passing but continues in the lives of those he has touched. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." Donald's indomitable spirit, his kindness, and his capacity for love are the treasures he leaves behind, etched forever in the hearts of his family and friends. Donald Ray Leake's legacy is not one of sorrow but of inspiration - a call to live fully, love deeply, and make each day count. Let us honor his memory by embracing the beauty of life, just as he did, with open arms and a hopeful heart.
