On August 17th, 2024, Heaven gained the most outgoing angel of them all, Dommie Walker Williams. Born into the embrace of a God-fearing family on January 15th, 1950, in Dothan, Alabama, she was the embodiment of love, faith, and unyielding spirit.
Her parents, Susie Mae Walker and the Reverend Samuel Curtis Walker, instilled in her a deep-rooted sense of compassion that defined her every action. Dommie's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of determination.
A proud graduate of Carver High School and an attendee of Tuskegee University, Dommie's life was enriched by the love she found with her late husband, Thomas Williams. Together they embarked on a journey that saw them relocate to Miami, Florida, a place where their family flourished. Following her husband's passing, Dommie returned to her roots in Dothan, where she continued her dedicated career at Flowers Hospital until her retirement in 2008.
Dommie's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She was an active and devoted member of the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, where her father once pastored. Her service to the church extended beyond the pews; she found joy in caring for the sick and shut-in and in orchestrating church events that brought her community together. In every action, she demonstrated what it means to be a faithful servant of the Lord.
Those who knew Dommie were acquainted with her penchant for life's finer pleasures: her impeccable suits, her vast collection of hats and shoes, her love for crossword puzzles, and her ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. She sang with the voice of an angel, shopped with enthusiasm, praised God with fervor, and never hesitated to offer a kind word. Her free time was spent nurturing her plants, attending church services, and reveling in the company of her grandchildren. Dommie's infectious smile, hearty laughter, and the warmth of her Sunday best will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Susie Mae Walker and Reverend Samuel Curtis Walker, her brother: Emanuel Walker, and late husband: Thomas Williams, who all passed on before her and are dearly missed.
Dommie's journey through life was marked by the bonds of family and the joy of motherhood. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her children: She is survived by her four children: Gregory (Greg) Redding Walker, Tometa (Bryan Williams Yancey (Bryan), Sabrina (Brina) Williams, and Thomas (Ezedrick) Williams; brother and sister-in-law: Daniel (Dan) Lee Walker (Mary); twenty grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, will forever cherish the memories of a mother and matriarch whose love knew no bounds. Her extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends will carry forward the light of her spirit.
As a faith-filled, loving, and spirited soul, Dommie Walker Williams was a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration. She embodied the words of the great poet Maya Angelou, "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud." Indeed, Dommie was that rainbow for many, a bright splash of color in the lives she touched, a reminder of God's promise and the beauty of human kindness.
Let us take comfort in knowing that Dommie's journey was a remarkable one, marked by the lives she changed and the joy she spread.
She may have departed from this earth, but her legacy will continue to inspire us to live with love, act with kindness, and walk with faith. Dommie Walker Williams, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, will forever be remembered as the embodiment of a life well-lived, a life that will continue to motivate and uplift us all.
