Delores Harrison Life and Times

Miss Delores (a/k/a Lorise) Harrison was born February 23, 1953, in Dothan, Alabama, to Lucille Harrison and the late L. C. Beachem and as a daughter by the late Charlie Harrison, Jr.

Words on these pages without talking about Delores’ mother (momma), Lucille, Coot.  For almost 73 years, her love and care for Lorise was evident.  She would say no body will take care of Lorise like she does and that she wanted to live so she could make sure Lorise was taken care of.  And that she did at her ripe age of 92.  She took care of Lorise from the time she woke up to when she would lay her head to rest.  A mother’s (momma) love is endless.  A mother mission that was more than well done.

On January 31, 2026, God dispatched his angels to Southeast Health in Dothan, Alabama, to safely return her into His loving arms.  We are comforted in knowing where she is and excited for the new life she’s experiencing for the first time in a long time.

Lorise accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.  She was a member of Christ Church International and was special to many of its members. She loved the Lord, Gospel music and attending outside events.

She took pride in dressing in style, including creating her own fashion.  You could expect a picture from her in her fancy silk pajamas or latest outfit.

Lorise loved and believed family was everything, and proved it in many ways: phone calls just to check in, never forgetting a birthday, consistent Christmas gifts that arrived right on time, showing up for celebrations, and a listening ear that felt like a vault.

She never had a formal education and excelled in areas that would not have been possible given what others had labeled her.  It was what they said, however, Lorise never acted as if she had any kind of handicap, and was persistent and always determined.  She attended the Vaughn-Blumberg Center, the MR Day Care Center, and Vivian B. Adams, where she formed many lasting relationships.

She found joy regardless of the circumstances and beauty in life’s simplest moments.  She did not see her disability as a barrier to what she could accomplish.  She always found other ways/means to work around it.   She overcame the barrier of lack of transportation to get out into the community.

It is said by those in her circle, “What Lola wants, Lola gets.”  She competed in Ms Wheelchair Alabama.

When asked, ‘What is Important to You and Your Wishes for the Future?’, Lorise said, “Maintain good quality of life, Surrounded by people I enjoy and who enjoy me. Being able to access the community.”  And that is exactly what Lorise had.

Lorise will be lovingly remembered by her devoted mother, Lucille Harrison; her sisters, Linda (Freddy) Wimes, Janice (Albert) Ardis;  brother Phillip Harrison, and bonus brother Ricky (Carolyn) Grubbs; and a host of bonus siblings, her cherished nieces and nephews, some of whom she helped nurture with love and care.

She also leaves to cherish her memories with her uncle Homer Laster, Jr., and her aunts Edna Flowers and Vivian Foster, along with special friends who have assisted her throughout her life, and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
