Deborah Lawrence Life and Times

Deborah J. Chambers Lawrence, a beacon of light and love, completed her earthly journey on July 22, 2024, surrounded by the warmth of family in Dothan, Alabama. Born on October 1, 1953, in Houston County, Alabama, Deborah's life was a testament to the enduring power of faith, family, and education.

In the heart of Houston County, Deborah's story began with the loving guidance of her late parents, Juanita J. Chambers and James Miller. She found her spiritual home at an early age at Adam Street Baptist Church, which later became Greater Beulah Baptist Church, where she cultivated her lifelong commitment to community and service.

Deborah's educational journey was marked by a thirst for knowledge and a dedication to excellence. After attending Dothan City Schools, she proudly donned her cap and gown as a graduate in the class of 1973. Her academic achievements were not merely a personal triumph but a steppingstone to inspire others to pursue their dreams with vigor and determination.

Throughout her life, Deborah's heart was intertwined with the lives of her family members, who she loved with an unwavering passion. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers: Jerome Thompson and Jonathan Chambers. Yet, her legacy lives on through her cherished sisters: Carolyn B. (Julius) Salley, Teresa G. (Kenneth) Brockins, and Sherilyn Chambers, and her brothers, Carl Chambers and Terri Chambers. Her spirit will continue to guide her eleven nieces and nephews, including: Aristotle Lane, Gill Hodge, Dewayne Chambers, Cecil Chambers, Demingus Chambers, Dawanna (Cameron) Jones, Equanda S. (James) Holton, Dennistris Callins, Antoinette S. Ramsey, Kevin D. Corbitt, and Keanu Brackins, and her extended family of great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Deborah's special bond with her sister-in-law and confidant: Linda Curry, was a source of strength and comfort throughout her life.

Deborah's journey was marked by an unwavering optimism and a belief in the power of positive thinking. She often shared the words of Helen Keller: "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." This quote encapsulated her approach to life, as she faced each day with hope in her heart and the confidence to make a difference.

Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her influence extended far beyond her immediate circle. Deborah's ability to uplift and motivate was akin to that of a motivational speaker, always ready to encourage others to reach for the stars. Her life was a living example of her favorite quote, as she achieved remarkable things through her unwavering faith and optimism.

Deborah's story is not one of an end but a continuation. As we celebrate her life, we are reminded that her spirit remains a guiding light for all of us. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of her family, friends, and community, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations to live with purpose, passion, and positivity.

Let us honor her memory by embodying the values she held dear: love, faith, and the pursuit of excellence. Her life was a journey of joy, and her memory a treasure that will forever shine bright in the lives of those she touched.
