David Dumas Life and Times

With heavy hearts yet cherished memories, we announce the passing of David Edward Dumas, a man synonymous with kindness and friendliness, on January 21, 2025, at the age of 82. David quietly departed this life of natural causes, in the same state where his story began, Alabama.

Born on December 29, 1942, to the late Thomas Jefferson Dumas and Susan Williams Dumas, David was a beacon of light in his family. His warm presence will be dearly missed by his beloved sister, Dr. Joyce Dumas of Fayetteville, Georgia whom were a profound part of his life’s journey.

A proud graduate of Carver High School in 1960, David carried that same pride to Tuskegee University, where he diligently earned his degree in 1972. His commitment to education and growth was a testament to his character and set the foundation for the diverse career that would follow.

David’s industrious nature also led him to the bustling assembly lines of the Ford Motor Company in Newark, New Jersey; a chapter of his life that showcased his adaptability and commitment to providing for those he held dear.

David’s professional journey was as noteworthy as his academic achievements. On February 13, 1969, he bravely answered the call to serve his country, becoming an Assistant Administrative Officer in the U.S. Army. His service would lay the groundwork for his unwavering discipline and dedication in all his future endeavors.

Following his military service, David transitioned into the civilian workforce with equal dedication. He poured his energy into multiple roles, enlightening young minds as a substitute teacher at Northview High School. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through as he cultivated Dumas Wholesale in Enterprise, Alabama, and captured life’s fleeting moments at Dumas Instant Photography. Furthermore, David served as a trusted insurance agent in Mobile, where he guided countless individuals with sincerity and compassion.

Those who knew David will remember a man who was unfailingly friendly, a gentle soul whose radiant smile could put anyone at ease. He moved through life with an air of tranquility and amiability that drew people towards him. A truly selfless individual, David embraced every role in life with grace and purpose, leaving a lasting impact on his community.
