Charles Vickers Life and Times

Charles Earl Vickers, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, left this world on August 13, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on March 5, 1952, in Dothan, Alabama, Charles was a lifelong resident of the community he adored. He was the son of the late JY and Pecola Vickers, who instilled in him the values of hard work and dedication that would define his life.

After serving honorably in the US Army, Charles dedicated himself to a career as a self-employed mechanic. His work was not just a job but a passion, and his reputation for excellence was known throughout Dothan and beyond. Charles's commitment to his craft was matched only by his dedication to his family and community.

Those who knew Charles will remember him for his outgoing and funny personality. He was the life of any gathering and had a knack for making everyone around him smile. Charles was outspoken, never hesitating to share his thoughts and stand by his convictions. His presence was a source of strength and joy for all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Throughout his life, Charles was an active member of his community, contributing his time and energy to various local associations. His involvement was not for recognition but stemmed from a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Charles's interest in cars went beyond his profession. He enjoyed working on classic cars, sharing stories, and imparting wisdom to anyone who shared his passion. His love for mechanics was not just about the machines but about the connections he made and the lives he touched through his work.

Charles is lovingly remembered by his wife of many years: Lula Vickers, who stood by his side through the many seasons of life. His legacy continues through his sons: Apollo (Kim) Vickers and Gamaska Vickers, and his precious grandchildren: Tony, Rachel, Jada, Daniel, Ja'drain, Avian, Xalee, Xoie, and Avery Vickers. He also leaves behind a close-knit family, including his siblings Shirley (Jeremiah) Thompson, Anis Scott, Sarah Whitehead, and Robert Jay (Carol) Vickers, who will miss his presence deeply.

As we remember Charles, we are reminded of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Charles embodied these words, leaving an indelible mark on the world and in the hearts of those who knew him.

Charles Earl Vickers lived a life full of love, laughter, and service. His memory will be a beacon for all who seek to live a life of purpose and joy. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit will live on through the many lives he touched.

The family of Charles Earl Vickers will hold a private ceremony to honor his life. They wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the community for the outpouring of love and support during this time. Charles's story is not one of an end but a continuing legacy of love, laughter, and the indomitable human spirit.
