Bishop Charles Henry Bell, affectionately known as Bishop Bell, was a beacon of light and a pillar of strength in his community. Born on February 23, 1935, in Ashford, Alabama, he embarked on his heavenly journey on October 24, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama. His life was a testament to his unwavering faith, love for his family, and dedication to service.
Bishop Bell was the beloved son of the late Willis Son Bell and Clara Lou Haymon-Bell. His early years in Ashford laid a strong foundation for the remarkable life he would lead. He was a true family man, first united in Holy Matrimony to Elease Lowe-Bell on January 7, 1958 and later to Annie Jean Newby-Bell on May 21, 1966. Their loving partnership was blessed with eight children, and together they nurtured a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. After 53 years of marriage, Mother Annie Jean Newby-Bell preceded him in death, leaving behind a legacy of shared devotion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife: Elease Lowe-Bell; his second: Annie Jean Newby-Bell; his daughter Diane Lingo, grandson Antonio Maurice Lingo, his siblings: Wallace, James Edward, Herman, Willis Carl; his sisters: Dollie Mae, Dovie Lou, Ila Jean; son-in-law: Ernest Dill.
The Bell family tree flourished under his care, with branches extending to his cherished brother, William Thomas Bell, and aunt, Anna Mae McCarty. Bishop Bell was a guiding light for his seven children: Lonnie (Angela) Charles Pruitt, Angela V. (Matthew) Bell-Jones, James Earl (Cassie) Newby, Nathan Charles Bell, Gwendolyn A. "Bookie" Bell, Vashita L. "Tweety" Bell, and Yashica O. (Danielle) "Buster" Bell. His legacy continued to grow with twenty-one grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his teachings and love.
Bishop Bell's educational journey was marked by his insatiable quest for knowledge and his dedication to his community. He received his education through the Ashford School system. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as the owner of Houston Vault Company for over 51 years. His hard work and dedication served as an inspiration to many and left an indelible mark on the local business landscape. He had a green thumb with growing his own fruit and vegetable which was his fruit of his labor.
His work history and association involvement were deeply intertwined with his spiritual life. Raised in a Christian household, Bishop Bell accepted Christ in 1959 under the guidance of Elder Eva White in Dothan, Alabama. His spiritual journey led him to join Overcoming Church of God in Christ, Apostolic Faith Temple, Adams Street Church, and he was a devoted member of Pentecostal Deliverance Faith Temple #1. His commitment to his faith culminated in his role as Pastor/Bishop of Pentecostal Deliverance Faith Temple #1, where he led his congregation with grace, compassion, and unwavering faith.
Bishop Bell's life was a living sermon, his actions speaking volumes of his commitment to God and his community. His legacy is not only etched in the hearts of his family but also in the lives of the countless individuals he touched through his ministry and benevolence. He was a man who walked by faith, led by example, and loved without limits.
In his passing, Bishop Bell leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will continue to resonate within his community and beyond.
