Betty Smith Life and Times

Betty Smith, a beacon of wisdom, generosity, and passion, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 15, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on December 30, 1946, in Dothan, Alabama, Betty was the cherished daughter of the late Willie Bryant and Elemon Thompson. Her life was a testament to the strength of her character and the depth of her faith, which she embraced at an early age.

Betty's formative years were spent in Webb, Alabama, where she attended Webb High School. Her commitment to her community was evident through her dedicated service at the Extendicare Health Center in Dothan, from which she retired after many years of faithful employment. Her resilience and trust in God were unwavering, guiding her through life's challenges with grace and fortitude.

Known for her vibrant spirit, Betty's outspoken and outgoing nature endeared her to many. She was a fountain of intelligence and wisdom, often sharing life advice that resonated deeply with those around her. Her philosophy of caring for others was not just a belief but a practice, as she touched the lives of everyone she met with her kindness and warmth. Betty's love for music and dance was infectious, and her presence was a source of joy at any gathering.

A woman of many talents, Betty's love for cooking, cleaning, and shopping were matched only by the size of her heart. Her devotion to her family was unwavering, and she fulfilled the roles of daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and friend with unparalleled dedication and love.

Betty's journey on earth was preceded by the loss of her parents and two beloved children, Kenneth Smith and Catina Skipper; one sister: Patricia Brewer. Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her legacy will continue to shine brightly through her family.

She leaves behind a loving and extensive family who will forever cherish her memory: her children, Stacy (Curlie Hamilton) Smith, Laura (Robert) Smith, Thomas Skipper, Jr., and Lamar (Priscilla) Bryant; fifteen grandchildren: Lamichael, Delmarco, Keyone, Jessica, Shun, Jasmine, Jeremy, Aaron, Natalie, Terrion, Brenna, Keyana, Zymiah, Brandon, Brittany, Tekia, Courtney and Jaquan; and a multitude of great-grandchildren. Betty's memory will also be treasured by the father of her children, Thomas Skipper, Sr.; her siblings, Clevers Iverson, Eva Pearl Snell, Blondell Craig, Charles Bryant, Merdise Bryant, Vernell Brouthon, Dicie Bryant, and Willie Bryant; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Smith; her special friend, Deborah Coachman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
