Betty J. Thomas-Smith affectionately known as “Betty J”, peacefully transitioned to eternal sleep on July 3, 2024.
“Betty J” was born in Houston County, Alabama on February 6, 1951 to Jefferson and Marie Thomas. She attended school in Dothan, Alabama and accept3ed Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.
Those who knew our mother knows she was a fighter and she fought to the very end. She was known for her wisdom, sense of humor, compassion for others, her resilience, and her love for coffee.
When she left us, she left a void that can never be filled. It brings us solace knowing that she is no longer in pain and suffering.
“Betty J” was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Jefferson Thomas; her sister: Margaret Oates; brothers: Hubert Hart, William James Thomas and Wiley C. Oates; and her husband, Lorenzo Smith.
Her memories will be cherished for years to come by her son, Johnnie L. Smith; daughters: Rasheda D. Brooks and Searra N. Grubbs; grandson, Rakeem E. Smith; great granddaughter, Sevyn I. Smith; her sister, Annie Thomas Severson (the late Willie James Severson); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a special friend, Curtis Moore.
