Mrs. Betty Jean (Kirkland) Hamilton was born on 11-02-1939 grew up in Henry County Newville, Alabama. She accepted Christ at a young age at the Center Baptist Church. Upon marriage, to George Hamilton Jr, she joined Shiloh Baptist Church and faithfully served until her illness. She attended and graduated from Newville Rosenwald School. She touched the lives of many through her service at the Coca Cola Bottling Co., West Point Pepperell, TRW Industries, and The Department of Public Health. Betty enjoyed singing, gardening, reading, and running up to 7 miles on the treadmill. One of her greatest joys was spending time at church, home and with her family. Betty was a faithful wife of 65 years to her husband George Hamilton Jr.
Betty was involved in various ministries of the Shiloh Baptist Church and loved attending Sunday School before her illness. She dedicated her time and devotion to the Deaconess, Matrons, Ladies’ Aide, Willing Workers, and Usher Ministries. She truly loved and enjoyed serving young people. Through her selfless service, Betty was also a faithful caregiver to her aunt Ollie, brothers Bernice, Ernest (Bud), Jark, and nephew David. She loved and encouraged them until the Lord called them home.
Betty was cherished for 65 years by her devoted husband. She will always be remembered as a faithful wife and mother by Debra Jean, (Dennis), Zelda Angela (William), Ursula Alicia (Gerald), 1-daughter-in law, Kimberly; and a host of brother and sister-in-laws. Betty is the legacy sibling and is preceded in death by parents, Deck and Alice Kirkland, 2 sisters, (Ethel and Mealie) 4 brothers (Earnest-Bud), Johnny Frank, Bernice and Jark), 3 sons, Carl Orlando, Dellie-Donohue, and George Hamilton III. She will be dearly missed by 15 grandchildren, 21 great grand-children, and 2 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends. Betty was surrounded and loved by a beautiful family and close-knit Christian community. All who knew her were inspired by her acts of kindness, determination, keen sense of humor and laughter.
During this time of mourning, we find solace in knowing that The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21b.
