Bennie McNair Life and Times

Bennie Frank McNair, a cherished pillar of the Dothan, Alabama community, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on July 15, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born on June 16, 1939, in the same state that he would later leave an indelible mark upon, Bennie's life was one of dedication, love, and service.

The son of Ireane McNair and T.R. Hamilton, Bennie's early years in Alabama laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and commitment to family. He married the love of his life, Bernice Jenkins McNair, from Birmingham, Alabama, and together they raised a large and loving family of 12 children. Their home was a hub of warmth and laughter, a testament to Bennie's role as a devoted husband and father.

For 33 years, Bennie was a steadfast employee of CXX Railroad, where his dedication and work ethic were evident to all who knew him. His colleagues respected him, and his friends admired him for his unwavering reliability. Upon retirement, Bennie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid gardener, whose hands could coax beauty from the soil, and a grilling master, whose culinary skills were the highlight of many family gatherings.

Music was another of Bennie's passions, and he could often be found playing his keyboard, filling his home with melodies that reflected the joy in his heart. His love for music was only matched by his generosity and humor. Bennie was a man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand, whether to a neighbor in need or a stranger. His kindness and willingness to assist others made him a beloved figure in Dothan, and his impact on the community was profound.

Bennie's spiritual journey was deeply personal, and he received Christ later in life. His faith was a source of strength and comfort, and he dedicated himself to serving the Lord with the same fervor he applied to every aspect of his life. His involvement in church activities was not just a duty but a calling, and he embraced it wholeheartedly until the Lord called him home.

Though he is preceded in death by his last wife, Lola McNair; his first wife, Bernice McNair; his son, Terry McNair; and his daughter, Debra McNair, Bennie's legacy lives on through his beloved children: Cedric (Adrain), Angela, Christaline, Melinda, Audrey Lorraine, Corlus, and Michael Antonio McNair. His memory will also be cherished by his sisters, Margrette, Alcha, Flac, Elyven; his brother, Malcon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by his generous spirit and loving heart.

Bennie Frank McNair's life was a testament to the power of love, hard work, and faith. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he led and the countless ways in which he enriched our lives. His laughter, wisdom, and kindness will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will forever remain in our hearts, a comforting presence that continues to guide and inspire us.
