Barbara Jean McCallister Toro, a beacon of joy and strength, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024 - Born on February 5, 1963, to the late Henry J., Sr. and Annette McCallister, Barbara's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and resilience.

Barbara's journey began in the arms of her loving parents and was nurtured by the bonds of family. Though she was preceded in death by her parents: Henry, Annette, and Mary L., her aunt: Margaret Doster, and her sister: Deborah Hudspeth, the legacy they left in her heart shaped the extraordinary woman she became. Her indomitable spirit was evident from her early years, as she blossomed into a formidable presence at Daleville High School, graduating in 1981 with a zest for life that was truly infectious.

As Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Barbara embodied this philosophy in every aspect of her life. She was a beautiful, fun, and loving soul whose presence was a comfort and joy to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Always there for her loved ones, Barbara's generosity of spirit knew no bounds.

Her four children - Sofia (Michael) Toro, Bianca (Jessie) McDonald, Valeria (Curtis) Reynolds, and Marcus Johnson - were the center of her universe. Barbara poured her love into their lives, nurturing them with wisdom, laughter, and an unwavering support that empowered them to reach for the stars. Alongside her children, her longtime companion Carl Donnell stood as a testament to enduring love and partnership.

Barbara's legacy extends through her fourteen grandchildren - Memphis, Mieyana, Jaishon, Belita, Emilio, Mataiya, Christian, Makayla, Atiana, Ariana, Tatyana, Nick, and Jordan—and her great-granddaughter Layla, each a sparkling jewel in the crown of her life. Her brother: Henry McCallister, Jr., and her nephew: Justin McCallister, along with her aunt: Sandra Corbitt, and a host of special family and friends, will forever treasure the memories of her radiant smile and the warmth of her embrace.             

Barbara's interests were as diverse as the many lives she touched. She found beauty and joy in the simplest of moments, inspiring others to do the same. Her laughter was a melody that resonated in the hearts of those around her, and her capacity to find happiness in every day was a gift she generously shared.

In the words of Helen Keller, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." Barbara lived by this creed, embracing each new day as an opportunity to create, to love, and to make a difference.
