Annis Pope Life and Times

Annis Louise Golden Pope visitation will be held one hour prior the service on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 12:00 PM at the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Headland, AL.

Annis Louise Golden Pope was born on October 8, 1933 in Marianna, Florida. She was the fourth of six children born to the late Lawrence Golden and Henrietta Banks Golden. Having been brought up in a Christian atmosphere, she accepted Christ into her life at an early age while attending her home church in Buckhorn Missionary Baptist Church in Marianna, Florida. She received her elementary education at Buckhorn Elementary School and her secondary education at Union Grove High School in Jackson County.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education from Florida Normal and Industrial Memorial College. Upon graduation, Annis began her career as a teacher in Jackson County at Sneads Elementary School ‘2nd Grade’. Upon relocating to Headland, Alabama she continued her career at Northside Elementary School ‘3rd Grade’. She touched numerous lives through her chosen career in education. Many students were blessed by her instruction for 32 years. In 1959, she met and was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Dr. Rev. C.S. Pope and, to this union, two children were born. In 1965, they relocated to Headland, Alabama where Annis’ husband, the late Dr. Rev. C.S. Pope, was named the Pastor of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

As a couple, they committed their lives to the service and work of God. Annis served as the First Lady of Shiloh for 42 years. Her involvement at Shiloh included: Teacher of the Sunday School, Member of the Missionary Society, Teacher of the Baptist Training Union, Teacher of the Vacation Bible School, Assistant Teacher of the Deaconess, Member of the Senior Choir, and the Director of the Children’s Choir. She was always helpful whenever needed. Her love for people was demonstrated in the way she reached out to those in need. After the passing of her husband of 58 years in 2017, Annis remained a faithful and devoted member of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and continued to serve under the leadership of Rev. Delvick J. McKay. All that knew Annis knew of her love for God and her service to the community at large. She was loved by all.

The memories of her life will be cherished by her two daughters: Angerine Pope and Anita Bellinger (Danny); previous son-in-law Miguel Fernandez; four blended daughters: Liz Pipe Pearl (Rufus),  Verna Pope Tremble (Herbert), Mary Pope Wright (Frank), and Virginia Pipe Cheney; one blended son: Alexander Pope (Larice); two granddaughters: Anamaria Fernandez (Shawn) and Nia Bellinger; four grandsons: Michael Fernandez, Manuel Fernandez, Miguel Fernandez, and Ian Bellinger; one great-grandson Tyler Culver; one loving devoted sister, Lillie G. Forrest; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and other loving family members and friends.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
