Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 10 AM at Dothan Community Church.

Willie was born on April 28, 1957 to the late Willie Z. Pines and Othalene L. Pines A.K.A “Nancy” in Cumberland Hospital located in Brooklyn, New York where he was also raised.
His early school years started at P.S. 59 where he first learned to play bass and would later compete with his school, against other schools, around the nation winning best school band in the country. The main competition took place at city hall, where the best from around the country, were invited to perform. This was a major highlight in his life.
Another highlight was at the age of 9 when Willie came to know the Lord. He became a member of Fountain Baptist Church and would start his spiritual growth there until seventeen years of age. Willie attended I.S. 33 where he would find his love for basketball. He would later be known as one of the best around the city. He graduated from I.S. 33 and would attend Food and Maritime Vocational Trade High School, where he continued his passion for basketball which would earn him a scholarship at Alcorn State University. At food and Maritime, Willie also became certified by the U.S. Government as a U.S. Merchant Mariner.
Willie attended Alcorn State University for just two years. He received a letter from the New York Knicks to be apart of their organization but declined. He returned to his birth town of Brooklyn, New York where he began working on airplanes at Northwest Airlines. After sixteen years, Willie made a career change and began working in fire safety where he worked in some of the finest buildings in New York City.
In 2005, he made the move to Dothan, Alabama which would become his final home. Willie rededicated his life to the Lord and became a member of Dothan Community Church where he served until his passing. Willie, on several occasions, made it known that he had a deep admiration for his Pastor W. Charles Lewis. He had deep love for his church home, speaking highly of his prayer partners: Willie Coleman, Tommy Donnell, Mark Freeman, Howard Hall, Steve Loveland, John Pitts and Roger Sprandel, whom all deserve the utmost respect as they came to his bedside for support and prayer.
Willie confessed that God was the best thing that has ever happened to him. His second and third greatest moments were the birth of his two daughters: Sherri and Shaniece.
At 11:15 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2019, after a long and wearisome battle, Willie Pines, Jr. was accepted into the loving arms of his Savior. Although he will be greatly missed here on earth, we are at ease to know that he is in a much better place. With praises, we all are thankful that Willie is experiencing the fullness of the kingdom of God which he possessed in his heart.
Willie was preceded in death by his father: Willie Z. Pines; his siblings: Jack Pines, Keith Pines, and Mary Louise Pines.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted mother: Othalene L. Pines (Nancy); two daughters: Sherri Juanita Pines and Shaniece L. Pines; his siblings: Carol Ann Pines, Donald Pines, Glenn Pines and Krystal T. Pines, a niece (he considered as a little sister), and church members, and a host of other relatives and friends.
