Sondra Coates Life and Times

Sondra Denise Coates was born April 13, 1970 in Fort Rucker, Alabama, to the late Earl Wade Coates and Rose E. Collins.

In 1991, Sondra graduated from Dothan High School and during her tenure there, she was a member of H.O.S.A. where she became an excellent speaker and she developed a passion for helping others and studied Physical Therapy. She later attended Wallace Community College to further her studies and began working as a Physical Therapist for Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Sondra was baptized at an early age at North Highland Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Robert L Jones. Her kindred and vibrant spirit allowed her to always live a carefree life in which she entrusted everyone with whom she encountered upon. That was just the way she knew how to be, no matter who they were, kind hearted, with compassion, and always with a smile! Sondra was always the life of the party and her nephews and nieces were her world and at times called them her kids.

After spending most of her life in Dothan, Sondra then relocated to Decatur, Georgia in 2006 where she became very close with her nephews and niece, “she called all them her kids”. She touched many hearts with her genuine soul. In 2016, Sondra fell ill and moved to Liberty Hill, Texas where she was beginning a new chapter in her life and bonding with her two oldest nieces and baby sister. She then joined Friendly Will Missionary Baptist Church in Georgetown, Texas prior to her death.

Sondra was preceded in death by her father, Earl Wade Coates, her mother, Rose E. Collins and her stepfather, Johnny M. Reeves, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful smile and memories her loving grandmother: Pearline Collins of Dothan, Alabama; two sisters: Antionette Coates of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Nyoka (Sean) Compagno of Liberty Hill, Texas; two stepsisters: Sharon (Charles) Shelley of Killeen, Texas and Danita Coates of North Carolina; one stepbrother: Johnny Reeves, Jr., of Killeen, Texas; aunts and uncles: Grady Collins and Jerry Collins both of Dothan, AL, Leon (Mable) Coates, Otis (Carol) Coates, Floyd Coates and Al Coates all of Maryland, Carol (Earl) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Laverne Baptist of Washington, DC, Cora Coates of Spotsylvania, Virginia; three nephews: Steven Coates, Antonio Coates and Ansel Owens (Georgia); three nieces: Ivori Coates and Jamaya McKay (Texas) and Charmaine Owens (Georgia); one great niece: Imani Coates (Georgia); one special great aunt: Dr. Joanne Stovall Gray of Long Island New York; one special niece: Marziya Lawton of Dothan, Alabama; a godsister: Caprielle Caliste of Dothan, Alabama; two very close and dear friends: Eric Robinson of Dothan, Alabama and Victor Hicks of Decatur, Georgia; several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
