Ruby Horne Life and Times

Ruby Horne was born November 26, 1924 to the late Harmon Grimsley Sr. and Minnie Salffold Grimsley.

She was married to the late Curtis Horne August 21, 1945. She was education in the public school system of Gordon, Alabama. She dedicated her life to Jesus at an early age, and was a devoted member of Grant Chapel AME Church where she served as: A Trustee, member of the choir, member of the Usher Board, and in any other capacity where needed. During her younger years she worked as a secretary for a Law Firm in Miami Florida, Wax Tex Pajama Factory in Ashford, Alabama and Wesley Manor Nursing Home in Dothan, Alabama.

She was a true servant of God, taking care of many family members for over many years: her mom, dad, three brothers and a surrogate mom to three nieces. She was truly a flower of harmony, kept an immaculate home and yard, that was as warm and inviting as her heart. Mom could grow anything growable in this area and bake cakes that drew friends and family from miles around, quilt, do beautiful crochet, and needle point.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories one daughter: Dolly Caldwell (Jesse) of Tuskegee, AL; two sons: Washington (Elizabeth) Horne of Jacksonville, Florida and Benjamin Horne of Dothan, Alabama; eight grandchildren: Micha Caldwell (Jamene) Hobbs, of NM, Russ (Angel) Caldwell of Atlanta, GA, Washington Horne, JR, Donald (Denny) Horne, David (Tammy) Horne all of Jacksonville, Florida, Christopher (Chalandra) Horne, Alex (Rand) Horne, Jason Horne all of Dothan, Alabama; four grant grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank the  Pastor Reverend Joshua Mann, and Grant Chapel AME Church for so generously welcoming us, opening your hearts and working together to make  this celebration of our love one’s life, in her home church of fifty plus years possible. We want to thank  Reverend Noah Reeves, Reverend Jimmy Reeves for the great work that they do, and always being so generous with there special gifts, time, and willingness to help. Thank you choir, ushers, fellowship hall and entire church body for your rewarding labor of love, Thank you family and friends who come from far and near to celebrate with us.
