Robert Earl McNealey was born June 4, 1944 in Headland, Alabama. He was the eighth of nine children born to the late Montgomery and Ardary C. McNealey. After graduating from Headland High School, he briefly attended Alabama State University.
He joined the United States Army and proudly served for 28 years. He served in the Vietnam War where he was wounded and received 3 Purple Hearts. While stationed at Ft. McClellan, Alabama, he met and married Gwenivere L. Cooper. Together, they had three children, Robert, Kimberley and Kelly.
He was a JROTC instructor at A.H. Parker High School after retiring from the military. In his years there, he was a positive role model and father figure to many of his students.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Annie Pearl Avery and Mary Crews; his brother: James Earl McNealey; and his second wife: Joyce Anderson McNealey.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, son Robert E. McNealey II (Andrea); daughter Kimberley McNealey Edwards (Donald); daughter Kelly McNealey (Michael). He was the proud grandfather to Donovan Scott Edwards, Taylor Alise McNealey and Aidan Michael Carey. Joyce’s sons, Terrence and Rodney Anderson and granddaughter Tierra S. Anderson. Sisters Beatrice Lewis (Detroit, MI), Mabel Crawford (Valdosta, GA), Alice (Roscoe) Twiggs (Atlanta, GA); brothers Montgomery (Alice) McNealey, Jr. (Kinsey, AL), Dr. Ernest (Earnestine) McNealey (Columbia, SC); one sister-in-law: Mable McNealey of Jasper, AL; best friends Rayfield Jones and SFC Douglas Tyree; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
