Polly Ann McCallister

Ms. Polly McCallister, age 74, of Dothan, Alabama passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 3 PM to 4:30 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 1 PM at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial will immediately follow the service at Gates of Heaven Cemetery.

Polly Ann McCallister was born on May 6, 1945 to the late J.C. and Mattie McCallister in Dale County Midland City, Alabama.  She departed this life Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Wesley Place Nursing home in Dothan, Alabama.

In the early years of her life, she attended school at Mack M. Matthews in Pinckard, Alabama.  She went on to graduate at Troy University in Troy, Alabama.  After graduation, she was employed at the House of Ruth for a while; then, went on to work for the Department of Human Resources (DHR) in Dothan, Alabama until she retired.

She joined Greater St. Paul Baptist Church in Pinckard, Alabama at an early age.  She served as president of the Usher Board, a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Matron Department.  She later moved to Dothan, Alabama and joined the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.  At New Bethel, she served as church secretary, member of Ushers Ministry, Sunday School Teacher for the Adult Women Class, helped plan Sunday School Seminars, President of the membership committee, member of the Matron and started the first church library.

She was preceded in death by her parents: J.C. and Mattie McCallister; her brother: Jeremiah McCallister and a nephew: Willer C. Miller, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories her sister: Merkie L. Miller of Los Angeles, California; her brothers: Henry J. McCallister, Sr. of Montgomery, Alabama and James McCallister (Robin) of Dothan, Alabama; Sister-in-law: Linda McCallister of Ozark, Alabama; Nephews: Glenn Miller (Ernestine) of Los Angeles, California, Henry McCallister, Jr. of Virginia, Jeremiah McCallister, Jr.of Ozark, Alabama, Jameson McCallister (Christy) of Chicago, Illinois, Tony Knight of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Steven Lester of Seattle, Washington; Nieces: Vanzella Janissel (James), Carol Irving (Elbert III) all of Los Angeles, California, Darlene Hill (Larry) Moreno Vally, California, Barbara Toro of Jacksonville, Florida, Deborah Hudspeth of Midland City, Alabama, Carashana Gissendanner (Calvin) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Monique McCallister of Dothan, Alabama.  She will greatly be missed by great and great-great nephew and nieces, her New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church family and a host of family and friends.
