Odessa Morris Life and Times

Mr. Odessa Morris, age 62, of Dothan, Alabama passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020.

Visitation will be Friday, January 17, 2020 from 4 PM to 6 PM at the funeral home.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at Gates of Heaven Cemetery.

Odessa Jasper Morris was born in Dothan, Alabama on July 10, 1957 to Charlie and Ella V. Morris, who both preceded him in death.  He transitioned on January 12, 2020 surrounded by his family, who loved and will miss him dearly.

Odessa was a believer of God and gave his life to Christ.  He proudly served his country in the United States Armed Forces as a Marine.  He was also a free mason of the Masonic Order.  Odessa received a technical degree from George W. Wallace Community College, where he gained his trade skills in mechanic and auto repair.  Odessa spent many years in Miami, Florida but returned to Dothan, Alabama to be near his extended family.

Odessa was married to the love of his life, Virginia Ann Mackey of Miami, Florida.  He and Virginia shared 40 years of marriage and their union produced one son, Christopher R. Mackey, who preceded Odessa in death.

Although Odessa was called by many names: "Dep", "O.D.", and "Pops", to all he was known as a man of his community.  Through his amazing cooking skills, his mechanics and his general hospitality, Odessa always expressed his love to everyone around him.  His statue and his booming voice filled every room he was in.  A certified "Jack of all Trades", there was nothing that Odessa couldn't or hadn't done.  His conversations always included some of his favorite sayings like: "Sang", "Holla like Tarzan, don't sang like Jane", "Give me 50 feet", "Don't ya know", "We gonna do what we do", "Oh you trippin", "I'm gonna do me", "Everybody business ain't everybody business", "Pimpin" and "Pimpin out".  Odessa was a true outdoorsman, who enjoyed: fishing, working on cars, being with his dogs and tending to his garden.

Odessa leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife Virginia Morris; three sons: Strategic Moore, Jammillah (Monique) Thompson and Calvin Moore; grandchildren: Sharif Moore, Ariel Thompson, Alana Thompson, Diondre Thompson, Kadajia Moore, Kaysaun Moore, Nakirah Moore, Christian Moore, Talvin Mackey, Telvin Mackey, Ja'Riyiah Mackey, Ja'Niah Mackey, Christian Mackey and Jameson Mackey; his siblings: Charlie (Ivory) Jones, Debra (Isaac) Winston, Sonya (James) Horace, Elidion Morris and Allen (Rosie) Morris; a sister-in-law: Barbara Harris; a brother-in-law: Robert Mackey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, an uncle and friends.
