Mary Whitman Life and Times

Ms. Mary Ann Whitman, age 64, of Dothan, Alabama passed away Friday, January 17, 2020.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 4 PM at Georgette L. Scott's Memorial Chapel, 814 Headland Avenue Dothan, Alabama 36303.

 

Mary Ann Whitman, better known by family as “Pete”, was born on May 30, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois to Isiah and Mae Bell Whitman (Stanford). 
 
She devoted her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of New Immanuel Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama under the guidance of Reverend George Lauderdale. 
 
She received her education from Bremen High School in Chicago, Illinois and graduated in 1973.  
 
While living in Hobon City, Alabama, she worked in the Anniston/Oxford area helping others for over 25 years and ultimately retired from NHC in Golden Springs, Alabama. In 2015, she relocated with her family to Dothan, Alabama where she enjoyed spending time with her daughter and granddaughters.  
 
Pete was an adventurous person with adaptable capabilities. She enjoyed sewing and watching her favorite shows on TV. 

She entered into eternal rest to be with our heavenly father on January 16, 2020. 

 She was preceded in death by her son: Gordon Whitman; fathers: Isiah Whitman and Cornell Stanford; mother: Maebell Whitman Stanford; brothers: Ronald Whitman, Donald Whitman, and Xerxes Stanford; sisters: Susan Whitman Gilmer, Joe Ann Whitman, and Pamela Whitman. 

Mary Ann  leaves to cherish her loving memories a daughter: Shequita Whitman of Dothan, Alabama; a son: Kelvin (Caprecia) Wysinger of Oxford, Alabama; granddaughters: Kennedy Wysinger of Oxford, Alabama; Jasmen Whitman and Payton Whitman of Dothan, Alabama; two grandsons: Jalen Stone of Anniston, Alabama and Devin Wysinger of Oxford, Alabama; three brothers: James Whitman of Hobson City, Alabama; Cornell (Mary) Whitman of Anniston, Alabama; Len (Cecila) Stanford of Ozark, Alabama; one sister: Nazaree (Chris) Lucas of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and others who will continue to love and miss her dearly.
