Leon Ambrose Brackins

Don’t cry because it’s over,  smile because it happened.  The life and impact Leon Ambrose Brackins made on the lives of others is truly worth a smile.

On December 5, 1951 a true “hero” was born.  Leon Ambrose Brackins was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Virgle  (Serreather)  Brackins.  He was born in Newville, AL where he resided for many years.  Knowing the importance of living a God driven life, Leon joined Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church at a young age where he was a devoted member until he departed his worldly life.

Leon received his early education at Pinkard High School in Pinkard, Alabama. After graduating with honors from Mac M. Matthews High School in Pinckard, AL in 1969,  Leon received an Associate’s Degree in 1970 from George Wallace Community College.  He furthered his education at Troy State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science.  Upon graduating college, Leon joined the workforce in numerous capacities to include his most recent career as a Cable Technician at Spectrum Cable until his retirement in December 2018.

Leon met the love of his life, Sherry Brackins in 1970.  They joined in holy matrimony on December 22, 1972.  To this union, two children were born, Corey Andre Brackins and Dr. Lakesha Lynette Brackins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgle and Serreather Brackins; brothers, Willie E. Brackins and  Hurley Brackins and sister, Vertice Johnson.

He leaves to cherish many memories to: His loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Sherry; two children, Corey (fiancé Malika), and Lakesha (fiancé Julius); eight sisters; Annie Williams, Winnie Blackwood, Evera Smith, Yvonne Lammons, Ernestine Copeland (Tellis), Shirley Brackins, Clefornia Salter (Jessie), and Gloria Copeland (Robert); mother in-law, Everniece McDaniels; six  sister-in-laws; Barbara Brackins, Ann McDaniels, Mary Helen McDaniels, Linda Simpson (Allen), Sheron Lee (Donnie), Betty Faye Reeves (Homer); and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
