Mr. James Barkley, age 63, of Dothan, Alabama passed away Monday, August 5, 2019. Visitation will be Friday, August 9, 2019 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11 AM at Georgette L. Scott's Memorial Chapel, 814 Headland Avenue Dothan, Alabama 36303.
James Lee Barkley was born in Dade City, Florida on December 7, 1956 to the late Lenora and Jack Baloom.
James attended and graduated from Hartford High School, he worked at Houston County Road and Bridge, Memory Hill, and Gardens of Memory.
December 15, 1989 he married the love of his life, Mary Katherine Hawkins. The two met while she was working at Dothan City Schools that turned into an undeniable love for each other, together James and Mary enjoyed a successful and happy marriage with each other for 33 years and at the heart of their life was their love for Jehovah. James spent much of his time in the ministries by helping others to appreciate the wonderful truths held in God’s word, The Bible. On July 11, 2009 James symbolized his dedication to Jehovah by Water Baptism, her served Jehovah along side his wife and friends at the Rogewood Congregation. James pioneered for several years and he was a faithful servant at Jehovah. James loved helping his family, telling jokes, playing with his grandkids, and buying things for his wife.
James fell asleep in death on August 5, 2019 after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Denise Worlds.
James is survived by his loving wife of 33 years: Mary Barkley; five children's: Adrienne (Kenneth) White, Pamela Lewis, Dewanna Lewis, Tony Hawkins, Jessie Lewis, Jr. all of Dothan, Alabama; fourteen grandchildren; two great grands; two sisters: Gwendolyn Barkley of Tacoma, WA and Nora Dent of Slocomb, Alabama; one brother: Willie Charles Helms, Jr (Duana Helms) of Tacoma, WA; four sisters-in-law: Berna (Ananias) Newsome, Myrtice ( Joe) Betsey, Dorothy (Sammie) Jackson and Renae McLeod; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
