Mrs. Clara Mae Porter Whatley was born on Thursday, August 16, 1917 in Henry County, Shorterville, Alabama to the parentage of the late Charlie Lee Porter, Jr. and Dicey Clark Porter.
At an early age Mrs. Whatley was fellowshipped into the Old Friendship African Methodist Episcopal Church family where she served as an Usher. In 1937, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Dellmus Whatley. To this union two daughters were born: Theresa Williams and Vinetta Lynn.
Mrs. Clara Mae Whatley answered Heaven’s call on Saturday, October 14, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Charlie Lee Porter, III, Waymon Porter, Alton Porter; one sister: Maggie Shaw; a daughter: Theresa Williams; a granddaughter: Shyretta Williams-Hamilton; a great grandson: KuShon Earl Hamilton, and a great nephew: Kevin Littleton.
Mrs. Whatley leaves in bereavement a daughter: Vinetta Lynn of Shorterville, Alabama; one grandson: Jasir Abdus Shakur of Newark, New Jersey; a special daughter: Katina Reeves of Shorterville, Alabama; a special son: Cornell Reeves of Mount Vernon, Washington; four great grandchildren: Camille Lynn of Shorterville, Alabama, Cameron (Deja) Lynn of Dothan, Alabama, Shakiyra and Ku’von Hamilton of Nashville, Tennessee; one great-great granddaughter: Jalia Arriana Lynn; two nieces: Ruffin Reeves of Shorterville, Alabama and Zera (William) Littleton of Ft. Gaines, Georgia; two nephews: Thomas Whatley of Houston, Texas and Samuel (Caroline) Clark of Shorterville, Alabama; a host of great nieces and nephews: James Gregory (Pamela) Reynolds of Aquasco, Maryland, Pamela Gale (Richard) Coffee of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Jacqiuelyn Reynolds of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; twenty-four great-great nieces and nephews; a beloved sister-in-law: Irene Whatley of Abbeville, Alabama; a first cousin: Annie Youngblood of Chancellor, Alabama; a adopted son: Melvin Howard of Silver Springs, Maryland; and a host other relatives and friends.
