Bessie Mae Davis Jennings was born June 1, 1925 to the late Lillie Mae and Fred Harrison Davis in Houston County, Alabama. She was reared by her paternal grandparents Callie Pine Davis and Lemuel Ransom Davis. Her father died before she was born. She attended school in the Dothan City School system. She was baptized at the age of five years old at the North Highland Baptist Church by the Reverend C.C. Clancy and remained a member of this church.
During her growing up, she attended Sunday School, Sunbeam Band, was a Junior Usher and a Junior Choir member. She later severed as a unit Leader, a Matron, Matron's secretary, Teacher, Matron's President, Matron's Counselor, and President of the District Matrons. She served the Missionary Society as a teacher, Secretary and President. She served as the Secretary of the Christian Board of Education for several years and Secretary of the Trustee Board. She was a Junior Usher supervisor for several years, a Senior Usher member and Secretary for many years. She was a member of Sunday School class #2 and served as an assistant and tacher of several years. She was a member of Circle #4 and served as a teacher and also as the teacher of the Missionary ministry. She was secretary of the Senior Usher Board. She was also the oldest Mother of the Church!
Mrs. Bessie was a homemaker and seamstress by trade. She loved helping others in whatever way she could and helped many!
She was married to the late Choice Thomas Jennings. She was preceded in death by her husband Choice; her son: Choice Jennings, II. and her daughters: Betty Jennings and Brenda McReynolds.
She leaves to cherish her memory, Son: Fred Jennings; Daughters: Katrina Scott (Percy), Deborah Kirkland (Bobby). She also leaves ten grandchildren; nine great grans and one great great grand: Shea, Khieka, Loukeisha, Choice III, Stephanie, Tasha, Percy, Kishawna, Greg, Erica, Starlena, Nikki, Tavon, Choice IV, Chozin, Brendasia, Keyana, Jetavia, Kevian, and Izrael and two special sisters: Dorothy Farley and Pauline Phillips.
