Annie Jewel Poke

Annie Jewel Poke was born on April 1, 1934 in Pike County, Alabama.
 

Annie attended school at Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Ashford, Alabama.
 

Annie’s Christian journey started at home by being taught the love of God by her mother. She joined Grant Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church along with her parents and siblings.
 

In 1954, Annie was saved and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. After claiming her salvation, she joined the Church of God by Faith in Ashford, Alabama. Annie involved herself in the church by serving n many capacities. Annie was a dedicated and faithful hardworking member until her health failed.
 

In 1958, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Willie C. Poke, to this union five children were born.
 

Annie’s professional career began at WexTex of Ashford, then later to the Sony Corporation of Dothan, Alabama. Annie retired in 1995, after over 18 years of service.
Annie hobbies included sewing, crafting, gardening and cooking. She made many garments for family and friends. Sunday and holiday dinners were always a feast. Many looked forward to her annual Thanksgiving meal for the community. Annie loved to share her blessings with family and friends. She also loved to open her home for many to enjoy.
 

Annie was predeceased by her parents: William Henry and Rosie Lee  Smith; husband: Willie C. Poke; sister: Rosie B. Fields; brothers: Fessie Lee, Robert Lee, Larnel, Leroy, John Henry and Elder W.C. Smith.
 

On Friday, October 5, 2018, the Lord called Annie home.
 

She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Lefoy (Gaby), Felix (Gail), Barbara (Kenneth), Teresa and Charles; sisters: Princess Fortson and Susie Jackson; brothers and sisters-in-law: Elder J.C. (Mary), Elder Moses (Mae Etta), Elder Noah (Mary) Smith; sister-in-law: Annie Lee Smith; grandchildren: Tanja, Carissa, Cedric, Tameika, Darlene, Donisha, Felix Jr., Ronaldo, LaMeika (Patrick), Elevelyn Rose, Mariah Jewel, Mary (Ashton), Adrianna (Dee) and Chase; great grandchildren: Colin, Lai, Eleyna, Paitlyn, Tajanay, Lanoriona, Elijah, Braxton and Ashton Bryce; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
