    Ed Sanders, of Dothan, passed April 7, 2011.

     Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Stringer Street AME Church, Dothan, with the Reverend Charles Atkins, Jr., pastor/eulogist, assisted by Presiding David Earl Reddick, Reverend Larry Norton, and the Reverend Augusta Narcissee.  He was laid to rest in Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan, Alabama.

    Ed was born December 14, 1923 to Louis and Lizzy Sanders.

    In 1944, he joined Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Ashford, Alabama. He later joined Nichols Chapel which is now Stringer Street AME Church.

    He spent most of his life doing what he loved, farming. He also owned and operated his own tire business.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, I.E. Sanders; sister: Hattie Mae Conyers; three of seven children he raised, Booker T. Patterson, Tommie Lee Patterson and Donna Lee Thomas; and one grandson, Eddie Ira Sanders; one brother-in-law: James W. Thomas and one sister-in-law: Cateline Marsh.

    He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Mary M. Sanders; children: Eddie Sanders, Jr. (Ruth) and Natasha Sanders; children he raised, M.C. Patterson (Rushie Bell) and Willie B. Patterson, Betty Neely (Henry) and Catherine Smith; brothers: Tom Sanders and L.C. Sanders; grandchildren: Stephanie Sanders, Charlotte (Wayne) White, Regina Dawkins, Tyrone Neely and Aliya Sanders; great grandchildren: Olivia White, Tyreesha Pritchett, Taniya Sanders and Tyrone Neely, Jr.; one son-in-law: Felix Thomas; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Tiller (James), Lizzy Wright, Carrie Christmas, Brenda Sue Singletary, Gloria Starling (Luther), Mary Thompson, Annie Mayo, Mantest Underwood (Larry), Remus Marsh, Lloyd Thomas (Marie), Levi Thomas (Lou Jean), Billy Thomas (Thelma), Mathis Thomas (Carolyn); numerous other grand's and great grandchildren who he raised as his own, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
