Bernice King was born January 26, 1931 to the late Mr. Curtis McDaniel and Leola Coleman. She resided in Headland, Alabama where she attended the nearby Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist church.

She was happily married to James King on December 1, 1945. She exchanged her life eternally at age 86 on March 29, 2017 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by sisters: Maule Coleman and rose Dixion and brothers: Claude Coleman, Willie Coleman, Eddie Coleman and James Coleman.

Bernice King's memories will be cherished by seven sons: Byron (Cheryl) King, Prattville, AL, Gary King, Edward (Jerleen) King, Bernard King, Headland, Alabama, James King, Jr., Dothan, AL, Tyrone (Johnnie Mae) King of Atlanta, Georgia and Ezekial King, Headland, Alabama; three daughters: Mavis Simpson, Annie Knight of Headland, Alabama and Bernid King Dunlap, Dothan, Alabama; two sisters: Lucille Watford and Fannie Lee Jones; one brother: Johnny B. (Marvella) Coleman of West Palm Beach, Florida;

Big Ma also has a host of kin which includes: grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
